Whats New at Creusa for 2012?
Outdoor Cattery Heating Installed
2011 proved to be a very busy year for all at Creusa Kennels. Current Owners, Jon and Kath, have invested in Creusa's infrastructure and hopefully the end of our current upgrade is in sight. In the last quarter of 2011 as Christmas approached we realised that the demand for kennel/cattery space far outweighed what we actually had available. So our first line of action was to make the outdoor cattery an all year round cattery instead of just a summer cattery. Our local Electricians were called in to install our heated Cat Pods which would keep our cat boarders warm in any weather. These units were soon put to the test and recieved a thumbs up from our testing team!
Old Breeding Kennels get a Revamp.

There are six old breeding kennels at the rear of 'Top Block' that have not been used since the end of 2010. These kennels were in a very bad way with the doors having been badly damaged by the previous inhabitants. The fencing was in desperate need of replacing and all the gates were falling apart. Over the course of December Lisa removed all the damaged fencing and rotten gates ready to be replaced. The electricians were called in yet again to install heating and power to all of the six houses. MArk, a local Carpentor, made new stable doors for all of the houses and made sure all the rooves were properly insulated. New gate panels were ordered and Paul our Brilliant builder worked in dreadful weather putting up new concrete posts and small walls along the length of the kennels outdoor runs. However the most taxing of all these jobs was perhaps the installtion of the gate panels and fencing. As Christmas fast approached Jon and Kath erected new chainlink fencing to finish off the units. (To say we are rather proud of our first attempt at fencing is an understatement :-) ). The kennels were ready for use on the 23rd of December and the dogs who stayed in the kennels had an amazing time. All that needs to be done now is paint the units in the summer and these LARGE family units will be available all year round increasing our kennel space quite dramatically!

These Kennels are ideal for
Giant Breeds
or
Large families. |

The New Dog Runs are 99% complete.
LET THE FUN BEGIN!!
After months of dealing with planning applications, Environmental agency permits, builders and suppliers we are really proud to announce that our runs are now in use. After Kath and Jon Purchased the kennels in late 2010 they immediately set to work making many much needed improvements to the kennels and cattery. Kath has always had the welfare of the animals as her foremost concern and has spent months designing and managing the build of outdoor play areas for the dogs who stay at Creusa. After months of delays due to red tape and poor service from some supply companies our runs were completed on the 23 June 2011. We have 9 smaller outdoor grassed areas, each with a small sturdy shelter in case there is a sudden downpour or it is particularly windy. There is also one really big secure area for off lead ball play and agility. It has been an absolute joy to watch the dogs race around after balls, or each other. We are really proud of our new play areas and although there are some minor jobs that need to be completed over the next two weeks we would welcome anyone to come and see our runs and see why we are so excited.
We have tried to get the ultimate photograph of dogs having fun. We put our favourite photos on our Facebook page, why not have a look to see which is your favourite. If you see a photo of your own dog and want a copy, email us and we can send it to you!)

(We have had a few queries from dog owners who cannot usually let their dogs off lead if they can come and play with their dogs in our play area as it is so secure, of course you can as long as you give us fair warning or book a time to come and play in advance) |

Summer Cat Cabins Upgraded.
Our outdoor cat cabins have been upgraded over the last few weeks so that our cat boarders can have a much more enjoyable stay. The eight cat cabins have all been refurbished and are now in use. Each cabin now has a raised platform in the outdoor area so that our cat boarders can enjoy watching the world go by in the fresh air.

New Shade-Netting has been put in place to protect the boarders from the sun in the afternoons whilst still allowing them to see out and keep them occupied. The old Breeding cat pens have been boarded off and changed into storage space.

New Grooming Room is now in use!
Over the last two months we have been very busy renovating the old worn out grooming room. Kerry and Lisa had a smashing time ripping out all the old fixtures and fittings in preparation for the tradesmen who completely retiled the room in stylish black non slip floor tiles and white wall tiles. We have had floor drainage installed to prevent water build up on the floor keeping it safe for all involved. Our new grooming room has been completely refitted with modern, effective, high quality equipment allowing us to provide a much better grooming service to all dogs (and cats) who need a bath and perhaps a haircut. We have installed

A hydrobath-pro dog bath: sprays pressurized warmed clean water through the dogs coat from a shower head providing a thorough clean which gets right down into the dogs coat and the same time gives an invigorating massage, this also helps to alleviate that “Wet Dog Smell” you sometimes get from other forms of bathing. The water from this is then collected, filtered and then pumped back through the shower head. The hydrobath has the shampoo added directly into the water, this mix of water and shampoo penetrates deeply into your dogs coat to skin level providing a really thorough clean.

An Aleolus Lo-Lo table: The brilliant Aeolus Lo Lo Table is one of the best electric grooming tables on the market today, combining quality design and fantastic usability. It is one of the lowest electric tables available, going down to an incredible 21cm (8.3 in) which allows any dog to easily hop onto it. This is just one reason why the Aeolus Lo Lo Table is one of the best. The Aeolus Lo Lo Table has an innovative X-style frame which allows for easy adjustment. The powerful but quiet motor is perfect for busy grooming salons and can be operated by a manual and foot pedal too. Because of the ability to adapt, this Aeolus Lo Lo Table can be used for all breeds,
An Aeolus Cage dryer which much more humane and less stress full than using a cabinet dryer and dogs cannot get over heated.
New Grooming Equipment: Oster clippers, Quality grooming scissors and Furminators are just a few pieces of the new kit we have purchased to complete our refurbished grooming room
We are very proud of our facilities and are able to offer all boarders a bath, clip or groom whilst they are staying at our kennels and cattery.

NEW OUTDOOR EXERCISE AREAS ARE BEING BUILT.
For anyone who has recently been to our premises or those who might be coming soon you will notice a hive of activity behind the Bottom block. We have two separate build projects on the go hoping to complete over the next month.
Project one is a new Sewage plant that is in alignment with Environmental Agency requirements. It prevents us from contaminating the environment with what we call Dirty Washdown Water. The installation of this system has been problematic and this has been delaying the build of our much anticipated exercise and play areas. Hopefully a specialist local drilling company will be on site during the week to finish off the digging and the tank can be put into place allowing Jason Hawkey our Fencing Contractor to complete our project. I would like to thank Dog Kennels Direct for their help and positive contribution to our build.

Our second project, to build 9 Exercise and play areas of various sizes, has begun but has come to a halt while we wait for the sewage tank to be put into place. We are all very excited and we hope that this new feature at our kennels will make dogs have an even better holiday with us. Already by using the 'Old breeding pens' as play areas, we have made a huge difference to our boarders kennel experience. It is so important for dog to be stimulated and have some one on one time with our kennel staff. We have loads of brilliant photographs of dogs having fun either with a ball, water, bubbles or a stuffed toy. Why not take a look on our Facebook Page.
Below is a plan of the grassed play areas with shelters.

Improvements to Bottom Block Kennels
Many of you may have noticed we have had the builders on site for the last 6 weeks. We have been making some much needed improvements to our main kennel block ('Bottom Block'). Most of the changes made are part of phase one of our improvements. Included in the changes being made at our kennels are the following
-
New drainage: New drains have been laid separating wash down (dirty) water and rain water. We are in the process of applying for a new sewage plant in accordance with new Environment Agency requirements. We have also changed the chemicals used at Creusa to ones that are biodegradable and animal safe. We no longer use products like bleach which is harmful to the environment. We have researched all the disinfectants available and have chosed two products, Animal Safe and VirX, which have exceptional safety parameters and which are suitable for our environment.
-
New Concrete pathways have been laid on either side of the kennels. The old pathways were cracked and broken and too narrow.
-
New improved gutters have been installed.
-
New Secure fencing: New fences have been erected to replace the old fencing that was starting to fail. The new secure areas outside the outdoor areas have been designed to allow dogs to be taken safely from their outdoor areas to the fields and what will hopefully be our new exercise and play areas. These areas are locked at night making your pets more secure.
-
New Roofs: The old roofs have been removed and new roofing put in place. By extending the roof-line slightly we have been able to make the outdoor areas more weather proof making your dogs stay with us much more comfortable. Previously in wet weather we have had to shut the dogs indoors because the runs became waterlogged. Now with the new improvements the runs remain dry and so do the dogs
-
New outdoor Lighting: Lights have been installed in the outdoor runs of the 'Bottom Block'.
-
Silent Doorbell has been installed to reduce stress. By installing the doorbell barking has been dramatically reduced and dogs are much more relaxed.
-
New Non-Slip tiles are slowly being laid in the bottom block. These tiles have specifically been chosen to prevent dogs from slipping on the tiles when damp after cleaning.
-
New thermostatically controlled heating has been installed in the 'Bottom Block' which proved to be a godsend over the bitterly cold Christmas period. Keeping all our dogs warm and snug indoors.

Identichipping now done at Creusa
New to Creusa. Is your pet already Identichipped? No, let us Identichip your beloved pets for as little as £14 whilst they stay with us. Microchipping a pet is a harmless way of permanent identification. As we are all aware, the loss of a much loved pet can be heartbreaking. By permanently identifying your pet if he or she is lost and then found by some-one else, local veterinarians, animal rescue centres and kennels can quickly and easily identify your pet. Your pet can then be reunited with you as quickly as possible. Kath is a registered veterinarian and licenced to identichip pets. Why not have it done for peace of mind, you may never need it but when you do, you will wish you had had it done!
